Wow, can't believe it's already week two. This week we started having class, an Intensive Grammar Session that meets every day for 3 hours a day. It's a great class cause it's slowly helping me regain my footing on Spanish that I lost during the summer. However, it's just a pain to sit through three straight hours of grammar theory. I can definitely see the improvements in my Spanish as a result of the class and being here for two weeks. It's not nearly as difficult to understand the Andalusian accent; for those of you who don't know, they like to drop letters and sounds because it makes it more fluid to speak. Makes sense, why make it harder to speak than it should be? However, it's definitely a pain to learn. I don't know if they pick it up right away or not.
However, I got to experience the culture a bit here. I went to a market that's held every Thursday. It was really interesting. I guess it has been around for a couple hundred years. Anyway, we had to buy a item there and then make up a story about it for class. They had some of the most random stuff there. I've never really been to a flea market in the States, but some of the stuff sold there, a dios, why. Why would anyone want to buy it? Secondly, I got to go to a bull fight. I'm going to go into a littler more detail in a later post because I've still got to get a grasp of what actually happened and what it actually meant. There's some significance involved that I don't really know yet.
Finally, I booked my first Ryanair ticket. I'm heading to Barcelona and hoping to catch a game there. Then I'm in the process of planning trips to Switzerland, Italy (once my return flight is fixed), Morocco, and France. Germany will be dealt with after those four. Then this weekend, I'm going to Lagos and Sangres in Portugal which shall be fun. So, just starting my traveling but looking forward to it.
Hasta luego
Greg
